Unity is led by a senior management team with significant breadth and depth of experience in the energy sector including specialist skills in technology development, commercialisation and engineering plus onshore and offshore services.
Technical Sales
As Technical Sales Director, Stuart is supporting the company’s growth strategy. He is focused on the commercialisation of our growing well integrity technology portfolio and further business expansion in global markets, notably the US, Middle East and Asia. Prior to this he was Operations Manager at Unity’s Aberdeen facility, and was the client focal point for the provision of onshore services. These included engineering, fabrication, maintenance, refurbishment, spare parts provision and other specialist workshop support.
Before joining Unity, Stuart forged a twenty year career at Baker Hughes, latterly working as Operations Leader for BHGE’s Surface Pressure Control business in the UK. This followed six years in Baku to establish the business in the region and support a major international operator. He brings a wealth of hands-on field experience in surface and subsea equipment to the role, alongside technical, operational and management skills.

Ian is responsible for senior client relations and international business development, expanding the application of Unity’s service and technology solutions. Ian’s strong technical, commercial and management skills have been honed over 35 years of working for leading operators and service companies. This includes an impressive line-up of positions as Business Development Manager at Altus Intervention; Senior Well Services Supervisor for the Brent Field at Shell; Senior Well Operations Engineer and Wells Project Manager for Baker Hughes; Drilling Supervisor and board level Director of Business Development, Marketing and Sales at Leading Edge Advantage and Global Product Line Manager at Lloyd’s Register.



Engineering & Operations
Mark joined our company in 2012 and is responsible for driving the growth of the business. An experienced manager with Expro North Sea for over 30 years, Mark managed Expro’s wireline intervention service at global, regional and domestic levels. As Global Product Line Director – Wireline Intervention he was responsible for over 220 personnel. Mark also spent time with Expro Group Integrated Services (EGIS) as a Production Services Manager and Well Engineer and was also responsible for managing and delivering the HSEQ objectives for the wireline department globally.

Gus has extensive knowledge of surface and in-well technology solutions, gained throughout his international career in senior technical positions at Cromar, Halliburton, Hunting, Peak Well Systems and for the latter eight years as R&D Centre Manager at SLB. His imaginative and creative approach to problem solving, combined with an emphasis on clean and simple design has led to the development and successful commercialisation of many innovative products.


Andrew has been at the forefront of innovation in the field of thru-tubing services for several years, spearheading crucial initiatives and leveraging his expertise to optimise solutions. His meticulous approach to solving challenges and his unwavering dedication to safety and efficiency have earned him recognition among peers and leaders alike.

Mark has over 30 years oil and gas industry experience gained in the UK and overseas. He joined the company in 2002 as the contracts supervisor, working on a number of high value client accounts for BP, Perenco, Shell, Enquest, Centrica and several others, prior to taking on the role of operations manager based in Great Yarmouth.



Scott has over 20 years experience in the oil and gas industry, across a range of disciplines including offshore field operations, coiled tubing and wireline intervention, inspection and machining. He joined Unity in 2015 as a Senior Wellhead Technician, developing expertise across a wide range of offshore trees and wellheads on numerous operator assets. Prior to this he worked at GE Oil and Gas, Baker Hughes, Tuboscope and Wood Group. As one of our Operations Supervisors, Scott applies his technical and management skills to support our teams of engineers and technicians in delivering the highest quality solutions for clients.

Management
Gary Smart, Unity’s Chief Executive Officer, has 30 years’ industry experience. His breadth of knowledge has been gained through a variety of technical, commercial and operational management roles in drilling, subsea, production and completions. Prior to joining Unity, Gary spent eight years at Tendeka, where he served as Chief Executive Officer, growing the business through organic technology development and acquiring and commercialising five venture capital backed early stage technology companies.
Prior to Tendeka, Gary spent eleven years at Weatherford International, latterly as Group Vice President of their Well Screen Technologies business, having previously worked with Petroline, NOV and Kvaerner FSSL. Gary is also the Chief Executive Officer of Pragma Well Technology, another FrontRow Energy Technology Group company.

Craig is responsible for the company’s finances, including planning, management of risk, record-keeping and reporting. He joined Well-Centric in 2018 from parent company FrontRow Energy Technology Group where he was Group Finance Manager. Prior to this Craig was an auditor with KPMG, working with a large portfolio of clients, from FTSE 100 organisations to family owned businesses. More recently he held the position of client relationship manager at Johnston Carmichael. Craig is a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

As a QHSE specialist in the oil and gas industry, Niall has valuable knowledge of global industry regulations. He is responsible for implementing appropriate processes, audits and policies within Unity and providing support and training to all staff to ensure compliance and continuous QHSE improvement. His role involves close liaison with all operational functions as well as HR and senior management.
Formerly, Niall was responsible for global compliance and HSE activities across multiple facilities with Impact Selector based in Aberdeen and builds on this experience in his current role. Niall has an MSc in International Business, Energy and Petroleum Studies and MA (Hons) in Economics and Finance.

Sophie joined Unity in 2022. Assisting Craig (Finance Director), she is responsible for the company’s finance function, including reporting, compliance and supporting performance with insightful business intelligence. Sophie joined the company from a Group Finance role in an oil and gas service company. Prior to this she was an Audit Manager at Johnston Carmichael, responsible for a large, varied portfolio of clients, including owner-managed businesses to large international groups. Sophie is a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Board

Oilfield services sector specialist, Stuart has almost thirty years of experience in the widest range of roles from small technology start-ups to senior executive and non-executive positions in large public companies. Previous industry experience includes BP Exploration, Expro International, Petroline Wellsystems and Weatherford International. Non-executive director roles include Aker Solutions, ASA and Zilift. Stuart is CEO of FrontRow Energy Technology Group which includes Pragma, Unity, Well-SENSE and ClearWELL.

Associated with successfully running both public and private enterprises, Graeme has over 35 years of industry experience. Most notably Graeme was the CEO of Expro, taking the business from public to private ownership in a multi-billion dollar deal in 2008. More recently he has played influential roles in Petrowell and Enovate and is currently a non-executive director of Stena Drilling and Chairman of EFC, CRE and BGF portfolio companies Spex Group and STATS Group.

Having trained with KPMG and qualified as a CA in 1993, Neil moved into industry in 1996 and worked with The Miller Group. Following a brief role in Care Homes at Four Seasons Healthcare plc, Neil spent 12 years as the Group FD of Kilmartin Property Group – a £1Billion property developer based in Edinburgh. His role included a variety of corporate structuring, tax planning, sales and acquisitions and a range of bank financing deals. In 2010, he became the COO of a superyacht designer based in London and the FD of a luxury hotel in St Barths. Neil is now the CFO of a number of oil and gas businesses within, and associated with, the FrontRow Group.

Prior to joining Unity’s board Dillan was Director at Stena Wells, leading the company from start-up to delivery of fully managed well construction and decommissioning campaigns. His time at Stena followed 16 years with Talisman / Repsol / Repsol Sinopec Resources where he held the roles of Platform Well Abandonment Team Leader, Wells Manager and Drilling & Completions Manager. A chartered mechanical engineer, Dillan has 25 years of technical engineering and well operations experience across the disciplines of drilling, completion, intervention and decommissioning.
